Home tutors come with various experiences and qualifications. Many school teachers or NIE-trained teachers become part-time tuition teachers and charge a higher rate due to their school teaching experience and MOE training. English tuition, Maths tuition, and Chinese tuition are among the most popular subjects. PSLE tuition and O Level tuition are very important to give the child a last minute boost for the critical papers.

Primary school tuition is on the rise, compared to secondary school tuition, as primary school children tend to have more timeslots available for home tution, and with less subjects, more affordable private tuition is possible.

Apart from one to one tuition with a home tutor, some parents send their children to a tuition centre. These tuition centers offer group tuition or enrichment classes, and are an alternative to home tuition.
